Each guards one of the four cardinal directions (north, south, east, west) and is associated with a season (summer, autumn, winter, spring) and one of the ‘five elements’ (wood, fire, earth, metal, water) said to govern change in all things.

The coin portrays the Four Mythical Guardians on background imagery comprising mountain tops and clouds.
