1/4 oz 2017 Lunar Rooster Gold Coin
The Australian Lunar series of gold coins epitomises The Perth Mint's rich tradition of minting bullion coins portraying Chinese themes. The reverse design on this year's releases marks the 2017 Year of the Rooster, one of 12 animals associated with the ancient Chinese lunar calendar.
In Chinese culture, people born in the Year of the Rooster- 1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005 and 2017, are regarded as intelligent, quick-witted, optimistic, ambitious, and adventurous.
The Chinese character for 'rooster' and the inscription 'Year of the rooster' appear in the design with The Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mintmark.
Each coin’s reverse depicts an adult rooster sitting on a branch of a peach tree, which is said to be symbolic of longevity and immortality.
No mintage limit applies to 1 kilo, 10oz, 2oz, 1/2oz, 1/4oz, 1/10oz and 1/20oz coins. However, production of these coins will close at the end of 2015, when The Perth Mint will declare each coin's official mintage.
